Description
Hi,here is a Stanley Bailey number 5 smooth bottom jack plane. This is a type 18 (1946-47).
This was a school plan. The plane had some paint on the bed, and I was able to remove most of it.
Some of the parts look to be intermixed which is typical of school planes.
The the iron that is on the plane has very little metal left, and is stamped from 1939. I have included another 2" wide unmarked iron to go with the plane.
I am pretty sure the tote, and lever cap are from a newer type. Probably a type 21, or from a number 5 Stanley made after they stopped making the Bailey model.
The tote, and front knob are fine. The front knob is definitely original, and has dings on it.
The plane is in decent usable condition.
There is wear, scratches, dings, and discoloration/staining, light pitting on the the plane sole, and other metal parts.
The lever cap has some pitting on the back of it. As stated above it does not look original, but is a Stanley lever cap.
All moving parts work. No cracks or repairs on the plane's cast iron body. Lightly cleaned, and oiled.
Please look at the photos closely as they are part of the description too.
Thank you for stopping by, and considering this plane. Have a wonderful day or evening!
